My characterised version of King Louis XIV. I’m planning to feature him in one of my comics.

Work in progress shots. The final piece looks considerably different to the original sketch.

A stylised, characterised version of King Louis XIV (who was given the name “The Sun King”). He had the longest reign as a monarch in Western Europe (75 years)! Anyway, I had a go at painting him as I want to include him in a comic I am planning. I won’t say too much about it just yet, but its going to be set in historical France. I wanted to give this image a classic feel to it and tried to imitate baroque style paintings (classic painting always inspire me in some way ^_^).

I’ve decided to go ahead and plan out my comics. I’ve had so many ideas in my head for a very long time so I’m going to try my best to bring them out to fruition (I really hope I do u_u).

I Entered the Voltage Character Design Contest Last Year…

…But I didn’t place as a winner so I’ll post up my entry here on my blog :). I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to enter the competition but decided to give it a shot with only one week remaining (I really had to rush my entries, I should’ve learned by now not to leave things till the last minute). Entrants had to follow a given brief and there were two parts to the entry, two character designs and an illustration.

Initial sketch drawn on paper and the simplified, edited sketch on Photoshop.

I spent so long on the actual designs I was only left with one day to get the illustration done :(. I would’ve preferred to spend more time on the illustration but never mind. It was a good experience overall :D. Details and winners of the contest can be viewed here.

I wanted to experiment and compare a watercoloured, “young and happy” portrait to the digital “serious and more mature” version I did previously. I actually completed this one before the digital one (I started this one shortly after I begun the other). Traditional mediums such as watercolours allow little room for mistakes (unlike digital art) so I was cautious about how I applied the colours (I had to be very delicate with it or I’d ruin the whole thing). It has been a very long time since I last touched my watercolours so this was refreshing to work on :).

New Blog, First Post.

While I’m still working on the main portion of my website, I may as well start on my new blog :).
This blog is a new addition to my website and here I shall mainly post updates to my site and generally use it to share any new artworks or projects I’m working on etc. (I’m not very good with blogs so let’s see how it goes ^_^;).
Anyway, here’s a sketch I did recently. It’s a charismatic grim reaper (though he’s not so much “grim” as you can see). It’s just a pencil drawing at the moment but maybe I’ll get this coloured eventually.
